Description:
Senior Capstone Project - UI Design - Prototyping - Motion Design - Augmented Reality
For our senior capstone project, my team and I set out to design an app from the ground up. We created Nest Mate—a minimalist, clean aesthetic furniture review and shopping app with a unique twist: augmented reality (AR) integration. This feature allows users to test how furniture looks in their space using their phone’s camera, bridging the gap between online shopping and real-world visualization.
Building the UI
Since our focus was on UI rather than UX, we jumped straight into designing low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma. Every element was crafted to feel sleek and modern, with a green and cream color palette that brought a fresh, inviting feel to the app, while black accents on buttons provided strong contrast for clarity and accessibility.
Enhancing the Experience with Motion
To elevate the prototype and make it feel more immersive, we incorporated motion design and animations throughout the interface. These subtle movements added realism and fluidity, making interactions feel natural and intuitive. This extra level of polish ensured that when presenting to our stakeholders—our professor and peers—they could experience Nest Mate as if it were a fully functional product.
A Seamless Blend of Function & Aesthetic
From intuitive navigation to interactive AR features, Nest Mate was designed to make furniture shopping effortless and engaging. Though we didn’t dive deep into UX research, our goal was to create a visually compelling and highly interactive experience—one that showcased the power of UI design in shaping how users interact with a digital product.
